BETTY JEAN TURK
Betty Turk, 82, longtime resident of Atlantic, passed away at Heritage House Friday morning, January 29, 2010.
Betty Jean Turk was born the daughter of Carl and Elsie (Elsberry) Avey in Audubon, Iowa on November 19, 1927. She grew up in Audubon and attended school at Audubon, Adair-Casey schools. Betty was married to Kenneth LeRoy Turk by a justice of the peace in Atlantic on September 22, 1945. Kenneth served in the army during WWII.
Through the years Betty used her various talents having been employed as a clerk, office secretary and factory worker. Places of employment included Blue Star, Sears Roebuck, Parrott Produce, Dr. Smith's Optical Practice, Imperial Clevite, Mormon Feed, Getz Steak House and Heritage House. The couple raised a family of three. Betty attended the Methodist Church.
She was interested in antique collecting, fishing and playing cards. She will especially be remembered for her home made rolls and chicken and noodle dinners and how she loved her family, children, great grandchildren and friends. Kenny and Betty's most memorable jaunts were antiquing trips with Vern and Hazel.
Among those who will especially treasure her memory are her children, Sherry Fox and husband Roger of Casey, Iowa, Monte Turk and wife Donna Sue of Anita, Iowa and Kenna Reha of Adair, Iowa; nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
She is preceded in passing by her parents, her husband Kenny, a brother Gerald Avey and a great grandson Josey B.Wilborne.
Funeral Information
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 3 at 10:30 A.M. at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. The committal service will be in the Atlantic Cemetery. Pastor Melodie Carstens, of the Buckcreek and Marne United Methodist Churches, will officiate. Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. family will be meeting relatives and friends at Rolands. There will also be open visitation Monday noon to 5 and Tuesday 8 to 5.
