KATHERINE A. CAVIN
Katherine A. Cavin, daughter of George W. and Clara (Hebing) Peters was born in Bear Grove Township in Cass County, Iowa, July 21, 1913 and departed this life on Sunday, February 7, 2010, at the age of 96.
Katherine was united in marriage to Miller L. Cavin, August 31, 1939 in Griswold, Iowa. To this union four children were born, Douglas, Stuart, Philip and Steven.
She attended country school at Bear Grove Township No 5, and graduated in 1930 from Lewis Consolidated High School. She graduated from Iowa Beauty Culture, Des Moines, Iowa in 1932. Katherine worked as a beautician at several locations in the Lewis area, eventually opening her own shop in her Lewis home. At the time of her retirement in 1982, she had worked as a beautician for 50 years. She was a member of the United Congregational Methodist Church, Lewis Boosters and The Order of Eastern Star. Katherine enjoyed traveling with Miller on many trips throughout the United States. She was known for her fine crochet work. She made name wall hangings for over 150 people. She was a resident at Heritage House for the last five years.
Katherine is survived by one son and spouse, Steve (Sue) Cavin of Aberdeen, WA, daughter-in-law Carla Cavin of Denver, CO, and 12 grandchildren, Tracy Cavin of Lewis, Troy Cavin of Chariton, Paul Cavin of Anita, Dawn (Paul) Reed of Urbandale, Tina Cavin of Rogers, MN, Amey (Stewart) Wahl of Thornton, CO, Beth (David) Pargulski of Des Moines, Tosha (Tobin) Davidson of Arvada, CO, Robert Parker of Ottumwa, Darrin Parker of Arvada, CO, Darby (Sara) Cavin of Cosmopolis, WA, and Colby (Erin) Cavin of Olympia, WA, 22 great grandchildren, and many friends and relatives.
Katherine was preceded in death by husband Miller in 1997, son Douglas in 2000, son Stuart in 1972, and son Philip in 2009, daughter-in-law Joyce (Sanny) Cavin in 1976, her 6 siblings and respective spouses - brothers, Guy, Raymond (Madge), Dale (Dale) and Bruce (Gwen), and sisters Mildred and May (Vaun) Gonnerman.
Funeral Information
Katherine's funeral service will take place at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 13 at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. Pastor Nadine Aydt of United Congregational will officiate. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Lewis, IA following the service.
There will be open visitation from 8:00 to 5:00 at Roland Funeral Home daily - until family will meet with friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, February 12. A reception will take place at United Congregational Methodist Church in Lewis following the interment.
Memorials may be designated to United Congregational Methodist Church of Lewis and American Cancer Society.
