IN REMEMBRANCE OF Thelma Rice, 102, long time resident of Atlantic, Iowa passed away on Monday, January 2010 at Heritage House in Atlantic. Thelma was born on November 7, 1907, the daughter of Elmer Edwin and Inez (Dilley) Buckley, in Atlantic, Iowa. Other than living four years in Griswold, Iowa, she lived in Atlantic her entire life, attending schools here and graduating with the Atlantic High School Class of 1925. She attended Iowa State Teachers' College and eventually was employed at Atlantic State Bank for eleven years. Thelma married Homer Edward Rice on August 12, 1939. She was past matron of Golden Rule Chapter, Order of Eastern Star; and was past president of Chapter AF of P.E.O. As a member of First United Methodist Church, she was active in United Church Women and circles of the church. She was a resident of Heritage House since October of 1985. Thelma was active at Heritage House serving on many committees and chairing the Resident's Council. She is survived by a nephew David Saemisch of Punta Gorda, Florida and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Homer; and her sister Veneita Saemisch and husband Everett of Tampa, Florida. The committal service will be held at the Atlantic Cemetery on Friday, January 15, at 10:00 AM with a chapel service at 10:30 AM in the main lounge at Heritage House.
